It is Finished

For You formed my inward parts;
You covered me in my mother’s womb.
I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
Marvelous are Your works,
And that my soul knows very well.

Psalms 139:13, 14

Consumerist guilt can cause us to feel shame at not being able to meet the multiple pressures that the media put on us for success or beauty. Brené Brown wrote that “Shame is an intensely painful feeling that we are unworthy and unworthy of belonging.” When we look around us at the world that God has made, and realize that that same God made each of us, it helps us to change the way we look at ourselves. We were made in God’s image. Our identity doesn’t consist of what those around us may think of us. We are valuable to God  because were were both created by Him and redeemed by Him. Even if, because of our our sins, we deserve being put to shame, Jesus instead puts our shame to shame.

Looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Hebrews 12:2
