Sandals

Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace. Ephesians 6:13-15

The Children of Israel were waiting expectantly. They had killed the lamb and painted it’s blood on the sides and top of their door-frames. They had roasted and eaten the flesh of that lamb. While eating their cloak was tucked into their belt, their sandals were on their feet, and their staff was in their hands.  A crisis point had been reached in the conflict between good and evil. God wanted to set the Children of Israel free from the evils of Egypt. But pharaoh did not want to let them go. That night the angel of death would pass over Egypt. The first born of every home would die. The only way to be saved was to have the blood of the lamb on their door frames.  God was about to take them on a journey into the wilderness and onwards to the promised land.

Just as the blood of the lamb saved every first-born Israelite from the angel of death, the blood of Jesus saves us. We too are involved in a conflict between good and evil.  God wants to set us free from sin. We find our salvation in Jesus Christ when we do two things. First we have to walk through the doorway that has the blood of Christ upon it. We then have to put sandals on our feet and follow the pathway that God leads us on. Our journey begins with our baptism. God will be with us every day, as we learn to walk with Him, and He will take us home.
