The Law of the New Kingdom

James and John envisioned sitting next to Jesus as the position to aim for in the new kingdom they thought was soon to come. But they had missed what Jesus had shown them by His example – that serving others was the only way to greatness. The sacrifice of Jesus leaves us no room for pride and selfishness in our hearts. The only way we can respond is by supreme love to God, and serving love to each other.
Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself. Let each of you look out not only for his own interests, but also for the interests of others. Philippians 2:3-4
