A Card and a Gift
The festive season brings cards, gifts and family fellowship as we celebrate the birth of Jesus. But that same Jesus has given us much, much more – the word of God, the gift of salvation, and family fellowship for eternity in heaven. Let’s not forget the reason for the season.  Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us. Matt 1:23

If Jesus was a Cricketer He’d be a Batsman
A batsman needs to learn to defend, to guard his wicket and protect his stumps. When Nicodemus sought out Jesus in order to find out more about Him, Jesus could not yet tell him He was the Messiah. Jesus had to be subtle. It was too dangerous for Him to directly claim to be the Messiah, but he began to defend his stumps, laying a platform to defend the case for His Messiahship.  It was only to the foreign woman at the well that Jesus was able to reveal His true calling.  The woman said to Him, “I know that Messiah is coming” (who is called Christ). “When He comes, He will tell us all things.” Jesus said to her, “I who speak to you am He.” John 4:25, 26

The Daily Blessed Hope
https://youtu.be/7A3SMknloRU Sin removes the “daily”, the continual connection and focus we have on Christ. The Holy Spirit works on our hearts and minds but Satan continually tries to stand between us and Jesus. He tries to remove the connection we have with Jesus. God is in the process of bringing his people to the place where they can continuously think about what He has done for them. God is not wanting to merely change us from sinning to not sinning. Satan is trying to take Jesus out and to put the world in, while God is seeking to restore a people who are continuously magnifying his name and praise him. Jesus doesn’t just want us to have life but to have us more abundantly.

Teaching in Parallel
The whole essence of the Bible is show us that God is coming to bring salvation to his people. From the promise given to the fallen pair in Eden, the whole of the Old Testament is looking forward to the first coming when Jesus came to teach us the things of God. The purpose of the New Testament is help us know who Christ is. People of every generation since the beginning of time have been looking forward to the time when Jesus will come and vanquish sin forever.   And I will put enmity Between you and the woman, And between your seed and her Seed; He shall bruise your head, And you shall bruise His heel.” Genesis 3:15

Citizenship
The Children of Israel had just crossed the border into the promised land when Joshua met a man standing opposite him. Joshua needed to know if the man was for him or against him. Where did his loyalties lie? Although we live on earth, we are also citizens of heaven. Because of our loyalties to heaven, we may be strangers and pilgrims on this earth. However, God’s kingdom will be forever, and we need to keep the promise of his eternal kingdom fixed in our minds. And it came to pass, when Joshua was by Jericho, that he lifted his eyes and looked, and behold, a Man stood opposite him with His sword drawn in His hand. And Joshua went to Him and said to Him, “Are You for us or for our adversaries?” Joshua 4:13

A Word of Warning
In his last days, the Apostle Peter wrote one last letter of warning and hope to the early christian church.  This message is just as important for us in these last days of the earth’s story. But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To Him be the glory both now and forever. Amen. 1 Peter 3:18

Imitators of Love
To be a disciple of Christ means to copy his actions and his character. He came to this earth to serve with love and our mission on earth must be the same as His. It is from His life that we can see love in action and it is only by imitating his love for others that we can be His disciples.  Therefore be imitators of God as dear children. And walk in love, as Christ also has loved us and given Himself for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet-smelling aroma. Ephesians 5:1,2

The Gospel According to a Little Bit of Dirt
Before almighty God we stand, formed from the dust of the ground. But God’s love for us is so great, He values us so highly, that He became as dirt and gave His life that we might be transformed into His image and share His home for eternity. And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being. Trees: Source of Life
Pr Peter talked about how trees live to give, and how Jesus died on a tree so that we might live forever.
Who Himself bore our sins in His own body on the tree, that we, having died to sins, might live for righteousness—by whose stripes you were healed. 1 Peter 2:24

Spring Service
The thought of something new coming was always in the minds of God’s people. How long will we have to put up with this situation until things get better? God desires for us to have a new beginning and he has a new beginning planned for us.  Spring is a moment of new beginnings. The day is coming when the taste of Spring will turn into a moment of exhilaration and exaltation…that moment when we step into the season of God’s newness. We look forward to the day that God will make all things new.

Acknowledging the Presence of God
God is worthy of our respect and honor. He is worthy of humbling ourselves in His presence. Do our lives reflect who God is? Do our lives reflect that we are acknowledging that God is present and active in our lives? We need to worship God and live in His presence.  Grace to you and peace from Him who is and who was and who is to come, and from the seven Spirits who are before His throne, and from Jesus Christ, the faithful witness, the firstborn from the dead, and the ruler over the kings of the earth.  Revelation 1:5

Building a People of God Part 4
Unity in the Body of Christ
Continuing his series on God as a builder, Peter discusses how our creator God made us as social individuals who He desires to Unite in His spirit into one family – the body of Christ.
That they all may be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You; that they also may be one in Us, that the world may believe that You sent Me. John 17:21

Building a People of God Part 3
The Family
https://youtu.be/6bj_jbs9M9k God did not create us to be an island, or just an individual – we are meant to be part of a family. Families were a part of God’s plan for this world. We are all individuals but we are also never alone. As well as our own families we have a church family, a work family, a community family and even a global family. It is only when we have God’s love in our hearts that we can truly love one another.  As we journey together our love for each other and for God grows.  Therefore be imitators of God as dear children. And walk in love, as Christ also has loved us and given Himself for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet-smelling aroma.  Ephesians 5;18

God is in Control
The king answered Daniel, and said, “Truly your God is the God of gods, the Lord of kings, and a revealer of secrets, since you could reveal this secret.” Daniel 2:47
Pr Peter looks at the life of Daniel and what we can learn about giving God complete control of our lives. Daniel and his friend were living in the presence of the enemy but the real battle was the trial of their faith. Their commitment to serve God meant they allowed God to be control of every aspect of their lives. Because of this God was able to bless them. If we tell God about our problems and have faith and trust in Him no matter what happens, he will be able to lead us, and will one day deliver us from the trials and tribulations of this world to new life awaiting us in heaven.

On the Bells of the Horses
As Christians our lives should have no distinction between sacred and secular, the holy and the profane.  In Zechariah’s prophecy the priests would have been shocked to read that the war horses of their enemies should have the same inscription on their bells as was written the band of gold worn on the forehead of the high priest.  However, God wants to use every part of our lives to reach others.  He wants us to break down the walls that exist in this world between what is “holy” and what is “profane”. There should be no separation between who we are on Sabbath and who we are during the remainder of the week. God wants people to turn to us and ask us why we are different.  We should be showing something of Jesus’s attitude no matter what is happening around us. We need to allow him to write the words “Holiness unto the Lord” on our life.

Revelation
Pure and Simple
Blessed is he who reads and those who hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are written in it; for the time is near. Revelation 1:3
We are now on the edge of the second coming of Jesus. There is nothing left to do that needs to be done. We are now on the edge of the second coming of Jesus.  Jesus has given us a special message in the book of Revelation and guarantees us a blessing from reading it.  He knows each of us intimately and in the book of Revelation has taken us to the throne room of heaven so that we may understand what is to happen in the future.

Walking in His Footsteps
And your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying, “This is the way, walk in it,” when you turn to the right or when you turn to the left. Isaiah 30:21
Pr Paul talked about how we can walk with Jesus every day. In order to follow him we need to listen to His voice. Jesus speaks to us through the Bible, as we pray, through signs and wonders, and by what we see in nature. God loves us and we can trust Him to lead us in the right way.

Building a People of God
Part 2
God desired that we serve one another in love. No one is an island, separate from the needs of humanity surrounding us. As the rich young ruler discovered, it is not that you keep the law that matters, but it is how you apply the principles of the law that is most important.
Therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering; bearing with one another, and forgiving one another, if anyone has a complaint against another; even as Christ forgave you, so you also must do. But above all these things put on love, which is the bond of perfection. Col 3:12-14

Building a People of God
“But everyone who hears these sayings of Mine, and does not do them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand: and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it fell. And great was its fall.” Matthew 7:24-27
God loves to make things happen. He is an architect and he created our beautiful world and all the people He put in it. God is still in the building business. He can take our lives and completely transform them. Building our character is far more important than building a church, a house or a career.

Thank You So Very Much
Therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering; bearing with one another, and forgiving one another, if anyone has a complaint against another; even as Christ forgave you, so you also must do. Col 3:12, 13
Forgiveness is a voluntary and intentional change in feelings and attitudes. In his sermon today, Richard examines the importance of forgiveness in our lives. Friendships, relationships, family and, most importantly, churches, cannot exist without forgiveness. It is only as we forgive others that Jesus will be able to forgive us. The peace that passes all understanding comes with forgiveness.

Will You Follow Jesus?
Does Jesus know that we love Him? Have we got to the point in our lives where nothing else matters except Him? Peter and Jesus were talking on the beach of the Sea of Galilee. Prior to his crucifixion Peter had denied three times that he knew Jesus and now Peter needed to know that he was loved, forgiven, restored, and had Jesus blessing to feed the lambs and the sheep. Jesus also loves each one of us. Will You follow Jesus?

Do You Know Him?
Pr Brad shares with us the personal testimony of his journey back to God and encourages us to dedicate our lives to Him each and every day. Without God there is no hope and to know Jesus is to have hope no matter how desperate our circumstances may be. As we claim His gift of life and His promises, we can then live a new Christ filled life of freedom.

The Ten Virgins
There were ten virgins waiting for the bridegroom. They all had lamps and oil and they all slumbered and slept. However, when the bridegroom came only five of them had spare oil to light their lamps. The lamp and oil and symbols for God’s word and the Holy Spirit. We need both of these in our lives to lead us to Jesus. Jesus stands knocking at the door of our hearts but it is up to us to open the door and let him in. We need God in our hearts and the Holy Spirit transforming our lives to be ready to meet Jesus, the bridegroom, when He comes.

Psalm 73
Asaph’s life was falling apart and discouragement was overwhelming him. The wicked were seemingly more prosperous than were the people of God. In the same way we often doubt the ability of God to provide for us and think we can gain more by seeking the ways of the world. However, the solution to Asaph’s and our problems cannot be found on this earth. It can only be found as we draw near to God who is always there waiting for us and wanting to provide everything we need both now and for eternity.

With Exceeding Joy
Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy. Jude 24

Is God Listening?
Rob shares with us some amazing answers to prayer, and also prayers that were answered but not in the way expected. Answers to prayer don’t always happen in the time frame we would like. Answers to prayer don’t always happen in the manner that we would like. But answers to prayer will happen.  Therefore I say to you, whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you will have them. Mark 11:24

Psalm 51
Pr Peter takes us through Psalm 51 where David contrasts the character of man, full of transgression and sin, with God’s purity and righteousness. David begs to be cleansed and delivered from his sins and God has mercy on him and blots out all his transgressions.  At the end of it all David could say with joy in his heart, “I have been forgiven.” The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise.  Psalm 51:17

Identity Crisis
Jesus said: “They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world” (John 17:16).
The measures and values of the world are very different to those of God. True biblical humility is to sit at the feet of an infinitely powerful and awesome God; knowing that he loves and cares for us, values our individuality, and wants us to join his eternal family. Let us learn to define ourselves and others by the measure and love of God, and the value that He places on us as His children.

Psalm 23
The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want. Psalm 23:1
Continuing the series on Psalms, on our quarterly communion day, Peter studies with us the love and care our God has for us as declared in Psalm 23. David was a good shepherd and loved his sheep. He met every need of his sheep, giving them shelter, green grass, safe water to drink, and healing their wounds. David is describing to us is what Jesus is like. Jesus has taken on the evil one. Jesus has taken care of our needs and provided abundantly for us. Jesus gave his life for us so that we might have eternal life.

The Significance of Genuine Faith
So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. Rom 10:17
John shares with us the true value of Biblical faith. Faith is given to us as a gift from God, but our faith grows as we read God’s word. We then put what we read into action through reliance on God during the trials and difficult times of our life. Faith is the victory that overcomes the world.

Psalm 19
Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart Be acceptable in Your sight, O Lord, my strength and my Redeemer. Ps 19:14
Psalm 19 shows us the way God relates and reveals Himself to us. Through both the natural world around us, and through His written word ,He communicates His will and love for us. In beautiful poetry, David urges us to study God’s word for ourselves, and to strive for union with our creator God.

The Power Of An Idea
Then Jesus told him, “I entered this world to render judgment–to give sight to the blind and to show those who think they see that they are blind.” John 9:39 NLT
The radical ideas of Jesus show us that there is so much more to learn…
Both institutions and individuals often stagnate in comfortable traditionalism. The word of God challenges us to grow and learn – to be born again with a new understanding of the nature of God. As the spirit guides us each day we will better understand His will and word.

The Recipe of Righteouness
Romans (part 5)
This talk is Peter’s final in the series exploring the Gospel according to Romans. In Romans chapters 12 to 16, Paul challenges us to engage in relational love – love for God, and love for others. The recipe is:
Be a loyal citizen of your country, Be a loving neighbour, Treat others with respect – refrain from judgement, Do not by your actions cause others to stumble, Bear the burdens of one another, and Be united in God

Judgement – Are we ready?
Carel Neuhoff, our Blue Hills College Principle talks about the importance of what is really in our hearts; what God sees in us. Through his God given wisdom; Solomon was able to discern between two women who both claimed the same baby, and his method showed the true nature of their hearts.
“…ten thousand times ten thousand stood before him: the judgment was set, and the books were opened. ” Dan 7:10 The aim of the judgement is to show what is in our hearts. Each day we need to ask ourselves if we are truly seeking the Lord. We need to pray as David did: “Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts: And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.” Psalms 139:23,24

Life’s Crossroads
Romans (part 3)
In Pr Peter’s 3rd part of a series on Romans, Paul places us at a crossroads. We can choose to be either slaves of sin or slaves of righteousness. “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” Rom 6: 23 It is only by choosing to follow Christ that he can change us and we can become truly free.

We Are What We Are Because
Romans (part 2)
Pr. Peter continues his exploration of Romans though Chapters 4 and 5 where Paul goes back 1500 years before Christ’s resurrection to show that Abraham had been saved by faith and it was “…accounted to him for righteousness.” We are saved through the new Adam by this same faith.

The Gospel According to Romans
The book of Romans is not so much about who God is, but rather what God does. It shows God in action, justifying the unjust, both Gentiles and Jews. This is the first of a multi-part series, in which Peter explores the main themes of Romans.
